  • Recognise and apply basic grammar rules properly.
  • Understand and uses the common Maltese phrases used in daily life.
  • Use the words and grammar rules to create short and simple sentences.
  • Acknowledge and understand the Maltese culture and lifestyle.
  • Use the four language skills up to the Level of A1 of the CEFR for the purpose of practical communication.
  • Understand the first Maltese words, how to write, read and pronounce them.
  • Know the basic Maltese grammar rules and how to apply them.
  • Comprehend main and most useful Maltese sayings and phrases.
  • Create short and simple sentences in Maltese language.
  • Recognise vocabulary related to thematic areas such as: In the House, In the village, Fruit and Vegetables etc.
  • Recall the Maltese alphabet, the definite article and particles.
  • Recall the appropriate use basic/given adjectives.
  • Recall the appropriate use of nouns.
  • List personal pronouns.
  • Recall meaning and appropriate use of basic/given verbs (conjugation in the present and past tense).
  • Understand first and basic words in Maltese Language.
  • Recognise the basic and main grammar rules.
  • Know the meaning of common Maltese phrases.
  • Be able to create simple sentences.
  • Discover Maltese culture.
  • Practise the four basic language skills up to Level A1 of the CEFR.

Target Audience

  • The Award in Maltese as a Foreign Language (MQF 1) is beneficial to all the foreigners who would like to learn to communicate in Maltese. This programme is designed to teach the basics of the Maltese language and culture. The course will cover every day vocabulary and expressions, provide the basics of Maltese grammar and also provide speaking practise. The participants will develop the four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) up to Level A1 of the CEFR.
